Tree Inspections & Reports Across Dorset, Hampshire & Wiltshire

Practical tree inspections, clear written findings and advice for your next steps.

TREE INSPECTIONS & REPORTS

Worried about a tree in your garden, beside a driveway or on a managed site? BRW Tree Surgeons can inspect its visible condition, explain the concerns and help you decide what to do next.

From an individual garden tree to trees around business premises, schools, churches and communal grounds, we agree the inspection area and the level of written reporting before the visit.

What we look at

Tree condition & visible defects

The crown, branches, trunk and accessible base are checked for visible issues such as deadwood, cracks, damaged branch unions, cavities, fungal growth and signs of decline. We consider the tree alongside nearby buildings, paths, roads and the way the surrounding space is used.

Written findings & recommendations

Where a written report is agreed, the scope can include tree identification, photographs, observed defects, recommended action and suggested priorities. We explain whether monitoring, tree work or further specialist investigation is appropriate.

Advice you can act on

Our aim is to give you a clear plan. If work is recommended, we can provide a separate quotation for the agreed tree surgery. An inspection does not automatically mean a tree needs to be removed.

When to arrange an inspection

  • You have noticed a split, cavity, hanging branch or a change in the tree's appearance.

  • A tree has been affected by a storm, impact or nearby ground works.

  • Fungal brackets, unusual dieback or significant deadwood have appeared.

  • You manage trees near people, buildings, parking areas or access routes.

  • You need a written record to help plan maintenance or respond to a concern.

If a tree appears unstable or branches are hanging, keep people away and call us to discuss urgent assistance. Please take photographs only from a safe position.

From first enquiry to a clear plan

01 · Tell us about the trees

Send your postcode, photographs, approximate number of trees and the reason for the inspection. Include any deadline and any specific report requirements you have received.

02 · Agree the scope & quotation

We confirm access, what needs checking and whether you need verbal advice or a written report. The scope and price are agreed before the inspection.

03 · Inspect & explain

We assess the accessible, visible parts of the trees and discuss the findings. If a closer examination or specialist assessment is needed, we explain that clearly.

04 · Plan the next step

You receive the agreed advice or report, with practical recommendations. Any follow-up inspection or tree work is discussed separately.

Tree inspection & report FAQs

How much does an inspection cost?

The cost depends on the number and size of trees, location, access and the level of reporting required. Contact us for a quotation. A free quotation is separate from the inspection and report service.

Can you inspect just one tree?

Yes. Enquiries are welcome for a single garden tree as well as multiple trees at residential or commercial properties.

What are the limits of a visual inspection?

A visual inspection records what can be seen and assessed at the time. Hidden defects, inaccessible areas and seasonal changes may require further investigation. It cannot guarantee that a tree will never fail.

Can I use the report for planning, a mortgage or insurance?

Send the exact requirements before booking. These purposes may require a particular survey, report format or specialist qualification. We will confirm whether the requested scope can be provided before you proceed.

How often should trees be inspected?

There is no single interval suitable for every tree. The tree's condition, location and use of the surrounding area inform the recommendation. New damage or a significant change may justify an earlier review.

Can you help if tree work is recommended?

Yes. We can quote separately for suitable pruning, deadwood removal or tree removal. Let us know about any known tree protection or conservation-area status so the next steps can be considered before work is arranged.
